Oil Pipe Repair Challenges

Cause of Oil Pipeline Damage
The damage to the pipeline corrosion was caused by high humidity and the pipeline’s relative proximity to water and moisture. The location of the corrosion were mostly located on the 4 and 5 o’clock position where the pipe would touch the water during high-tide. The damage was only found on the underside of the pipe suggesting contact with water. The upper portion of the pipeline was in good condition where moisture was not an issue.
Pipeline Repair Challenges Presented
The pipe was partially submerged during high tides as suggested by the corrosion damage to its underside. This presented a challenge as the application of the overwrap must be timed and coordinated accordingly. So that the application can avoid rising water levels when the high-tide comes. The environment also posed an issue as the pipe is directly above water which makes transporting the wrap and application trickier but not impossible. Application was conducted during low-tide and on a sunny day to minimize the initial contact of the material to water when applied to the pipe.
ProAssure Wrap Extreme Application Details
The applied pipe was previously applied with FibaRoll back in 2006. The new application involved using ProAssure Wrap Extreme over the affected area. The total area repaired was measured to be 3.6 meters. The remaining pipe wall thickness was reduced to 4mm from the original NWT 12mm when it was installed. The relative thickness of the wrap was about 8mm to evenly distribute the pressure from transporting crude.
