Cause of Pipeline Corrosion Damage
The external coating of the pipeline was showing corrosion. The exact cause was environmental in nature. The pipe was located in an elevated position above a body of water. Although tidal movements were not responsible for the damage. Moisture from the surrounding body of water is the exact cause as to why corrosion was present.
Pipeline Rust Protection Challenges Presented
The main challenge was with pipe corrosion protection application. The pipeline rusted areas were first identified and isolated. Although no part of the pipe was directly touching the surface of the water. It was however located in an elevated position above several meters of water plus a few meters in between the water and the platform. The weather didn’t present a challenge to the composite pipeline wrapping installation as it was done during ideal weather conditions. Installation also needed special equipment such as a harness to make sure the person responsible for the pipeline repair sleeves installation is safe.

The site of the damage was first measured with the length of the pipe thoroughly inspected for other defects aside from external corrosion. The exact length was determined to be 13 meters in length.
