Cause of Industrial Pipe Damage
Pipeline external corrosion due to environmental conditions and caustic transport medium. The pipes showed external corrosion damage largely in part to carrying the caustic material Amine. Possible internal damage was also theorized. The parts which showed significant corrosion damage were pipes which could pool liquid amine left over from transport. The damaged area included a horizontal straight pipe and an ‘L’ pipe.
Small Diameter Pipe Repair Challenges Presented
One of the repair challenge presented for both pipes were cleaning the damage area. The ‘L’ pipe for example was heavily damaged and shown extensive corrosion. The ‘L’ pipe was around 80% corroded with visible wear and deformities. The horizontal straight pipe was a bit easier but also presented a challenge with preparation as the protective layer of pain was noticeably chipped with visible internal corrosion marks showing. The pipes applied were also small pipes with diameters of 1 and 2 inches respectively which was problematic with cleaning and preparation.

The site of the pipe damage was clearly labelled and cleaned making sure no particulate matter or left-over corrosive material were present. The pipes were prepared using mild abrasives. The site was then given an application of ProAssure Wrap on the affected pipes.
